Mountain Lions quash Hurricanes 4-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Four different Young Harris College men's soccer players scored as the Mountain Lions shut out Georgia Southwestern State University in a 4-0 Peach Belt Conference match Wednesday (Sept. 21) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions recorded their third consecutive shutout and fifth in the past six matches as they improved to 3-1-3 overall and to 2-0-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Hurricanes fell to 5-3-1 and 2-2-1. YHC travels to Aiken, South Carolina, Saturday (Sept. 24) for a 5 p.m. league match against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • YHC took a 1-0 lead at the 15:40 mark when Sergio Llopart sent a ball into the box and Eduardo Righetti headed the ball into the back of the net. It was Righetti's first goal this season.
  • The Mountain Lions doubled their lead seven minutes later as Llopart finished a through ball from teammate Saad Maziane. It was Llopart's second goal of the year.
  • Young Harris added another goal with just over seven minutes before halftime to take a 3-0 lead. After a Malthe Kristensen throw in to Mikkel Goeling, Goeling played the ball to Alexsi Morel at the left post. It was Morel's first goal of 2022.
  • After a failed clearance by the Georgia Southwestern State goalkeeper, Ben Mackay corralled the loose ball and put it in the left corner of the net at the 62:05 mark. It was Mackay's first strike of the season.
  • Young Harris goalkeeper Henrik Timgren notched his fourth shutout of 2022 as he stopped two shots.
  • The Mountain Lions held an 18-6 lead on shots, including a 14-2 edge on goal.
  • Each team recorded five corner kicks, while YHC held a 21-17 margin on fouls.
