HICKORY, N.C. | Lenoir-Rhyne University scored three goals in the second half as the Bears defeated No. 11 Young Harris College 3-1 in a men's soccer match at the Moretz Complex Thursday (Aug. 25) evening.
The Bears improved to 1-0-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-1-0. YHC remains on the road for a 5 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 28) match against Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Adrian Martina's goal seven seconds into the second half gave L-R a 1-0 lead.
- The Bears doubled their lead on a Jaime Poza's penalty kick 25 minutes later.
- Pato Padilla, who had both of YHC's two shots on goal, scored the lone Mountain Lion goal on a PK with 5:06 left in the match.
- Lenoir-Rhyne held an 18-6 margin on shots, but only had a 4-2 edge on goal.
- Mikkel Goeling had two shots for the Mountain Lions, while Jamie Lapsley and Alexsi Morel had one apiece.
- Goalkeeper Henrik Timgren had one save for YHC.Â
