YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Four different Young Harris College men's soccer players scored as the Mountain Lions defeated their Blood Mountain rivals University of North Georgia 4-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match Wednesday (Oct. 4) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions snapped their two-match losing streak as they improved to 5-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks sank to 4-7-1 and 1-6-1. YHC returns to action Saturday (Oct. 8) when they host Lander University in a 3 p.m. PBC match. Either Lander or Young Harris has won the Peach Belt title every year since 2012.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Mikkel Goeling got the scoring started for the Mountain Lions with his team-leading third goal of the season as he beat the UNG keeper in front of the box at the 19:58 mark.
- Goeling, who leads Young Harris with four assist, set up the second goal as he crossed the ball to Quinn Thompson, who fired a laser into the right corner of the net at the 37:43 mark.
- Pieter Hamhuis made it 3-0 on his header in front of the box off an assist from Edoardo Righetti's corner kick in the 60th minute.
- Malthe Kristensen closed out the Mountain Lion scoring at the 69:25 mark off a cross from Angelo Panarello.
- Young Harris held a 24-10 margin on shots, including a 11-3 edge on goal.
- The Mountain Lions collected five corner kicks compared to UNG's 3.
- Young Harris goalkeeper Henrik Timgren stopped two shots.
- The Mountain Lions hold a 16-3-1 edge in the all-time series against the Nighthawks.
