YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Lander University held off Young Harris College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Bearcats improved to 7-2-4 overall and to 6-0-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-4-3 and 4-3-2. YHC returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 12) when they travel to Americus, Georgia, for a 7 p.m. PBC match against Georgia Southwestern State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Lander took a 1-0 lead with less than eight minutes before the half on Jed Smith's header off Charlie Bushby's direct kick.
- The Bearcats doubled their lead in the 76th minute on Marco Gueli's goal.
- Young Harris cut the deficit in half as Mikkel Goeling fed a ball to Sergio Llopart, who put in left corner of the goal with just over three minutes left in the match. It was Llpoart's third goal of 2022.
- The Bearcats led 10-8 on shots, including a 4-2 margin on goal.
- Young Harris held a 6-5 lead on corner kicks.
- Henrik Timgren led the Mountain Lions with two saves in goal.
