Mountain Lions shut out Carson-Newman 2-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Aimee Durn and Anika Elias with one goal each to lead the Young Harris College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Carson-Newman University Sunday evening (Sept. 5) at the Young Harris Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0-0 overall while the Eagles fell to 0-1-1. The Mountain Lions return to action at home at 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 10) against University of Montevallo.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: 
  • Durn's goal - her first of the season - was scored off a penalty kick with 2:34 remaining in the first half to give YHC a 1-0 lead. 
  • Elias's goal - her first of the season - was a through ball through the center by Durn to give the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead with just over 33 minutes remaining in the second half.
  • Carson-Newman out shot Young Harris 18-5 (8-4 on goal) and led the Mountain Lions 7-2 in corner kicks. 
  • Mckenna Peaster recorded a career-high eight saves in goal and registered the shutout for the Mountain Lions.
  • Durn led YHC with three shots while Elias and Britt Verstegen had one each.
