YOUNG HARRIS. Ga. | Saad Maziane's hat trick led Young Harris College men's soccer team to a 6-0 shutout over Emmanuel (Ga.) College Sunday (Sept. 5) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0-0, while the Lions slipped to 0-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 8) at 5 p.m. when they host Lincoln Memorial University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- After a Mikkel Gioling goal in the fourth minute off an assist from Quinn Thompson and Joel Whittingham, Maziane scored the next two goals in a five-minute span. Maziane knocked the first on a direct kick just outside of the box into the center of the net in the 13th minute and added another strike in the 18 minute off a Thompson cross to give YHC a 3-0 lead.
- Maziane added the third goal on a penalty kick with just under 13 minutes left in the match to give the Mountain Lions a 4-0 cushion.
- Young Harris got its final two goals from Federico Gutierrez and Jamie Lapsley. Sondre Olsen and Charlie Wilde were credited with assists.
- Young Harris outshot Emmanuel 24-1, including a 13-0 margin on goal.
- The Mountain Lions enjoyed an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Goalkeeper Eduardo D'Avino tallied a shutout for the Mountain Lions.
