Goling's golden goal gives No. 9 Mountain Lions a 1-0 OT win over Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. | Mikkel Goling's golden goal gave the No. 9-ranked Young Harris College men's soccer team a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference overtime win over Georgia Southwestern State University Wednesday (Sept. 29) evening at Hurricane Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 8-0-0 overall and moved into sole possession of first place in the PBC with a 4-0-0 ledger. The Hurricanes fell to 3-4-1 and 1-3-1. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (Oct. 2) for a 4 p.m. PBC contest against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Goling's game-winner was scored with 1:08 remaining in the first overtime. Riccardo Sambugaro played the ball to teammate Pato Padilla on the left side of the box. Padilla sent the ball in to an unmarked Goling in the center of the box. Goling them blasted the ball in from 12 yards out into the upper right corner of the net. It was Goling's fifth goal of 2021.
  •  Young Harris had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Sondre Olsen's shot careened off the crossbar with just over nine minutes left.
  • The Mountain Lions outshot the Hurricanes 10-1, including a 4-1 margin on goal.
  • YHC held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Henrik Timgren earned the shutout as he stopped one shot in goal for the Mountain Lions.
