No. 9 YHC shuts out Pacers 3-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College registered its fifth shutout of the season as the No. 9-ranked Mountain Lions recorded a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer victory over the University of South Carolina-Aiken Saturday (Oct. 2) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions remained perfect at 9-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 inside the conference, while the Pacers fell 1-7-0 and 0-5-0. YHC travels to Morrow, Georgia, for 5 p.m. PBC match Wednesday (Oct. 9)  against Clayton State University.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead on Ben Mackay's first goal of the season midway through the first half. His goal form the left side was set up by a pass from teammate Mikkel Goling.
  • YHC added a goal in the 61st minute on a Quinn Thompson strike at the far post off a Val Feeney corner kick that the Pacer goalkeeper couldn't hold on to.
  • USC Aiken had a chance to cut the deficit in half, but Uri-Malcolm Young's penalty kick was stopped by Young Harris keeper Henrik Timgren six minutes later.
  • The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal 50 seconds after the missed PK to take a 3-0 lead. Pato Padilla scored his third of the season off a double assist from Saad Maziane and Charlie Wilde.
  • YHC held advantages in shots (17-5), shots on goal (6-1), and corner kicks (8-2).
  • Eduardo D'Avino and Timgren combined on the shutout with Timgren recording the one save.
  • The Mountain Lions had 23 different players see action against the Pacers.
