Sambugaro leads No. 5 Mountain Lions past Lakers 2-1

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. | Riccardo Sambugaro scored twice to lead No. 5 Young Harris College past Clayton State University 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 6) afternoon at the MOBA Soccer Academy.

The Mountain Lions improved to 10-0-0 overall and to 6-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Lakers slipped to 4-5-2 and 3-2-1. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse FIeld Saturday (Oct. 9) for a 1 p.m. PBC match against Flagler College.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Sambugaro gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead at the 8:06 mark. Val Feeney crossed the ball off a corner into the box which the Clayton State goalkeeper punched the ball deep out of the box to Sambugaro, who gathered the ball and smashed it into the top right corner.
  • The Lakers tied the game at 1 on a Langston Blackstock goal midway through the first half.
  • Sambugaro gave the lead back to Young Harris at the 70:13 mark. Another Feeney corner kick was delivered to Sambugaro in the box. Sambugaro knocked in his second goal of the season into the bottom right corner of the net. 
  • YHC held a 16-12 edge on shots, including a 4-3 margin on goal.
  • The Mountain Lions had a 7-4 lead over the Lakers on corner kicks.
  • Eduardo D'Avino and Henrik Timgren each played a half in goal for the Mountain Lions, which each netminder recording a save.
