ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Ninth-ranked Young Harris College and Flagler College split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday (April 27) afternoon at Flagler Field.
The Saints took the opener 3-1 before the Mountain Lions exploded a 14-0 victory in five innings in game two.
The Mountain Lions improved to 30-9 overall and finished the Peach Belt with a 17-3 mark, while the Saints fell to 15-17 and 8-8.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- The Mountain Lions scored their lone run in the second on a Morgan Curley leadoff home run to right-center field. It was Curley's fourth long ball of 2021.
- Flagler took the lead 3-1 after a two-run single in the bottom of the second by Mercedes Salinas.
- Young Harris only collected five hits and stranded seven runners.
- Sara King (7-3) took the loss for the Mountain Lions. Reliever Sam Davis recorded five strikeouts in four innings.Â
Game 2
- Young Harris scored in every inning, but the second.
- YHC took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Haylie Shope double to right center.
- Ashley Autuori's RBI single in the top of the third gave YHC a 2-0 lead.
- The Mountain Lions scored three more runs in the fourth to open up a 5-0 advantage. Jill Torres drove in the first run on a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch scored another run and a Carly Rigsbee ground out plated the final run.
- Young Harris bstted around in the fifth inning as they scored nine times on five hits and three Flagler errors.
- Emily Harris, Biz Walters, and Torres had run-scoring singles, while Autuori connected on a three-run homer to left field. It was her third home run of the season.
- Torres led YHC with three hits, while Curley and Autuori had two hits apiece.
- Jill Dixon (11-1) allowed just three hits and struck out six in the complete-game shutout.
