MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The ninth-ranked Young Harris College softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Georgia College Friday (April 16) evening at the Peeler Complex.
The Mountain Lions won game one 10-1 before taking the nightcap 8-2.Â
Young Harris improved to 26-7 overall and to 13-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats fell to 9-21 and 3-11.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- Young Harris collected 14 hits led by Ashley Autuori and Emily Harris, who each had three hits. Natalie Corbin and Katelynn Hodges added two hits apiece.
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 7-0 lead as they scored in each of the first three innings.
- Morgan Curley drove in a run on a grounder before Hodges stroked a two-run single to center field in the first inning.
- Autuori had a RBI double to center and Jill Torres added a run-scoring single in the second inning.
- Autuori drove in two more runs in the third with her triple to left field in the third.
- Shea Bayreuther, Curley and Harris each drove in a run in the top of the seventh on singles.
- Sara King (5-2) earned the win in the circle. She allowed no earned runs in the complete game.
Game 2
- The Mountain Lions had 12 hits in the nightcap with Corbin leading the way with three hits, Haylie Shope, Maddie Urquiola and Harris had two hits apiece.
- Shope gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Shope.
- YHC broke the game open with a seven-run third inning. Autuori started the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Rigsbee added a two-run single before Shope drove in three more with her second homer of the game. Urquiola closed out scoring with a RBI single to center field.
- Jill Dixon (9-0) struck out three in the complete game win for the Mountain Lions.
