No. 9 Young Harris sweeps PBC doubleheader from Georgia Southwestern

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The ninth-ranked Young Harris College softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Georgia Southwestern State University Monday (April 12) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 24-7 overall and to 11-1 in the Peach Belr after taking the opener 9-0 in five innings and the nightcap 4-1. The Hurricanes fell to 12-12 and 3-7.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

Game 1
  • Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Jill Torres RBI single.
  • The Mountain Lions broke the game open with a six-run third inning on just three hits. Katelynn Hodges and Haylie Shope drove in runs with singles, while Maddie Urquiola added a sacrifice fly. Ashley Autuori finished the scoring with a run-scoring infield hit.
  • Emily Harris added a two-run single to center field in the fourth.
  • Sara King (3-1) earned the complete-game shutout in the circle.
  • Shope and Harris led YHC with two hits apiece.

Game 2
  • The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead in the first. Natalie Corbin singled and stole second base. She came around to score as GSW committed two errors on the play.
  • Morgan Curley led off the second with a home run to left-center and Autuori added a sacrifice fly to give YHC a 3-0 lead.
  • Hodges added a RBI double in the fifth.
  • Jill Dixon (8-0) remained unbeaten in the circle with the complete game.
  • Curley collected three hits, while Corbin and Urquiola had two apiece.
