MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Montevallo built up an 11-goal advantage before holding off a furious Young Harris College rally to take an 18-17 Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse victory Sunday (April 11) afternoon at the UM Lacrosse Stadium.

The Falcons improved to 8-4 overall and to 1-2 in the GSC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-7 and 1-3.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Montevallo scored 13 of the first 15 goals in the match before Sierra Haas scored with seven seconds left before halftime.
• The Mountain Lions scored eight of the first 10 goals in the second half to cut the deficit to 15-11 with 13:59 left on Ella Hancock's goal.
• Aubrie Valvo closed the match with four goals to pull within a goal at 18-17 with 1:07 to play.
• Young Harris outshot Montevallo 38-29, including a 26-10 margin in the second half.
• The Mountain Lions had a 22-12 edge in draw controls and a 36-28 advantage in ground balls.
• Valvo led YHC with five goals, while Taylor Greenberg added four more. Leigh Anne Turner found the back of the net three times, while Hancock and Haas had two goals apiece. Emily Flynt also scored.
• Hancock, Flynt, Haas, Valvo and Kinsley Purser each registered an assist for the Mountain Lions.
• Hancock led YHC with nine draw controls, while Greenberg had four and Valvo tallied three.
• Hancock and Kelsey Dover each scooped up four ground balls, while Greenberg, Gwenyth Gibbons, and Turner had three apiece.,
• Dover caused three turnovers, while Hancock had two.
• Maddy Meyers tallied nine saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
