No. 9 YHC, No. 15 UAH split doubleheader

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | No. 9 Young Harris College and No. 15 University of Alabama in Huntsville split a softball doubleheader Sunday (April 11) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.

The Chargers took the opener 5-3, while the Mountain Lions took the nightcap 12-2 in five innings.

YHC improved to 22-7, while UAH fell to 21-8.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

Game 1
  • The Chargers jumped up to 3-0 lead as they scored three unearned runs in the second.
  • The Mountain Lions tied the game at 3 with a three-run third inning. Jill Torres and Carly Rigsbee each drove in a run with singles before pinch runner Sutton Long scored an unearned run.
  • Gracie Green drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth on a double to center field.
  • Emily Harris led YHC with two hits.
  • Haylie Shope and Katelynn Hodges had doubles for the Mountain Lions.
  • Sara King (3-2) took the loss in the circle.
Game 2
  • Young Harris scored in every inning, but the first.
  • The Mountain Lions scored four times in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. Harris drove in the first run on Harris' double to left field. Natalie Corbin followed with an RBI double. Ashley Autuori drove in two more with her sacrifice fly to right field.
  • YHC broke the game open with a six-run third inning.
  • Corbin added a RBI single and Autuori drove in two with a double to center field.Torres closed out the scoring with her three-run homer to right-center field. It was her 10th home run of 2021.
  • Autuori added a two-run single to right in the fourth inning.
  • Jill Dixon (7-0) earned the win for the Mountain Lions.
  • The top three hitters in the YHC lineup drove in 11 of the 12 runs. Autuori led the Mountain Lions with six RBI, while Torres had three and Corbin had two.
  • Autuori collected three hits, while Corbin, Torres, Maddie Urquiola and Harris had two hits apiece as the Mountain Lions connected on 14 hits.
