YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and Lincoln Memorial University split a non-conference softball doubleheader between nationally ranked teams Tuesday (March 30) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
No. 4 LMU won the opener 6-4 before No. 13 YHC claimed the nightcap 13-4 in five innings.
The Mountain Lions improved to 20-5, while the Railsplitters fell to 25-4.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- Lincoln Memorial jumped out to a 5-0 lead as they took advantage of four YHC errors to score five unearned runs.
- Young Harris got back in the game as Carly Rigsbee smacked a three-run homer to left-center field in the third inning.
- The Mountain Lions pulled within a run at 5-4 as Natalie Corbin drove in a run in the sixth inning on a double down the left field line.
- Young Harris actually outhit the Railsplitters 9-7. Biz Walters and Rigsbee led the way with two hits apiece.
- Sam Davis (7-3) took the loss in the circle.
Game 2
- The Mountain Lions scored at least three runs in four of the five innings played.
- Rigsbee, Haylie Shope and Ashley Autuori each drove in four runs.
- YHC had 12 hits with Autuori led the way with three hits. Corbin, Rigsbee and Shope had two hits each.
- Jill Dixon (6-0) struck out seven to earn the complete-game win.
- The Mountain Lions took a 3-0 lead on Shope's three-run homer to center field.
- YHC added four more runs in the second, including three on Autuori's homer to right-center field.
- The Mountain Lions ended the game early on Rigsbee's three-run blast to left-center field.
