YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The 13th-ranked Young Harris College softball team rallied in both games to sweep a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Augusta University Friday (March 26) evening at the YHC Softball Field.
The Mountain Lions rallied from four runs down to win the opener 6-5. YHC forced extra innings in the nightcap and the Mountain Lions won 4-3 in 10 innings.
Young Harris improved to 19-4 overall and 8-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Jaguars fell to 8-16 and 2-4.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- After Augusta took a 4-0 lead on a Lindsey South grand slam in the first inning, Young Harris began its comeback as Jill Torres ripped an RBI double down the left field line in the bottom half of the inning.
- YHC took the lead 5-4 after the Mountain Lions scored four times in the fourth. Maddie Urquiola had a bases-loaded walk before Emily Harris stroke a bases-clearing two-out double to left field.
- The Mountain Lions added their final run on Carly Rigsbee's RBI single to center.
- Sara King (9-3) earned the win in the circle as she allowed just one run and struck out six in 5.2 innings in relief.
- Haylie Shope tallied her first save as she recorded the final three outs.
- Harris and Rigsbee had two hits each for YHC.
Game 2Â
- Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the first on Torres' run-scoring single to right.
- The Mountain Lions doubled their lead in the fourth on Shope's homer down the left field line. It was her fourth home run of 2021.
- After Augusta rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the seventh, Young Harris sent it to extra innings as Alanna Dunson led off the bottom of the inning with a homer to left field on the first pitch she saw. It was her fourth long ball of the season.
- Young Harris won the game in the 10th. Natalie Corbin reached on an one-out single up the middle and moved to second on a passed ball. Corbin later scored on a throwing error.
- Torres led YHC with two hits.
- Sam Davis (7-2) earned the win with four innings of relief. She scattered three hits and struck out eight.
- Starter Jill Dixon had eight strikeouts in six innings.
