YHC opens season with two wins on first day of Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The No. 6 Young Harris College softball team opened their 2021 season with two wins Friday (Feb. 5) on the first day of the UAH Charger Chillout.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0 as they rallied for five runs in their final two at-bats for a 9-7 victory in eight innings in the opener against the University of West Alabama. YHC closed out the day with a 10-2 win in five innings over Lincoln (Mo.) University.

  • Ashley Autuori went 5-for-8 in the two games and drove in seven runs. The freshman smacked a two-run homer to center field in the second inning against West Alabama. Autuori sent the game into extras as she had a two-run, two-out single in the seventh. She had an RBI double in third inning against Lincoln and ended the game early against the Blue Bears with a fifth-inning run-scoring single.
  • Maddie Urquiola went 3-for-3 in the opener against the Lions and laced two doubles, driving in a run in the fourth.
  • In the eighth inning against UWA, the Mountain Lions took the lead for good on a Carly Rigsbee single to right field before YHC added an insurance run on a bases-loaded walk to Jill Torres.
  • Emily Harris and Biz Walters each collected two hits against the Tigers.
  • Sara King (1-0) earned the win against West Alabama with six innings of relief. She allowed just one unearned run on four hits.
  • The Mountain Lions scored in every inning but the fourth against Lincoln.
  • Harris, Walters and Autuori each collected two hits for Young Harris against the Blue Bears.
  • Torres drove in three runs, including two on a fifth inning double. Walters and Autuori also drove in two runs apiece.
  • Haylie Shope (1-0) earned the complete-game victory, allowing just two hits.
