Jill Torres smacked two home runs as the fifth-ranked Young Harris College swept a non-conference doubleheader from Wingate University Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
Torres connected one a home run to left-center field in the bottom of the eighth as the Mountain Lions took a 2-1 victory. YHC scored eight runs in the first three innings as they took the nightcap 8-4.
Young Harris improved to 7-1.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning as Haylie Shope led off the frame with a home run to left field.
- Shope led YHC with two hits, while Emily Harris, Torres and Ashley Autuori each had one.
- Three of the five hits by the Mountain Lions went for extra bases. In addition to the long balls from Shope and Torres, Autuori smacked sixth inning double.
- Sam Davis improved to 2-0 as she scattered six hits and struck out six in the complete-game effort.
Game 2
- Young Harris scored four times in the first and third innings as the Mountain Lions jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead.
- Torres connected on a two-run homer to left and Biz Walters added a two-run single up the middle in YHC's four-run first inning.
- Alanna Dunson stroked a three-run homer in the third for the Mountain Lions. Carly Rigsbee had a RBI double earlier in the inning.
- Five of the six hits by Young Harris in the nightcap went for extra bases. Rigsbee contributed two doubles along with Torres, while Dunson and Torres had homers.
- Shope (2-0) earned the win in relief as she allowed one unearned run and struck out four in four innings.
