Georgia Southwestern rallies for 108-105 OT win over Young Harris

AMERICUS, Ga. | Georgia Southwestern State University rallied from 12 points down to pick up a 108-105 overtime victory over Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Feb. 10) evening at the Storm Dome.

The Hurricanes improved to 9-3 overall and to 7-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-6 and 4-5.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Young Harris, which never trailed in regulation, led by as 12 points (85-73) after Alphonso Willis hit a jumper in the paint with 5:01 to play.
  • The Hurricanes put together a 13-3 run over the final 3:03 in regulation to tie the game at 95 after Jordan Furlough connected on a three-pointer with 6.6 seconds. Young Harris had a chance to win in regulation, but missed a shot as the horn sounded.
  • GSW took its first lead of the game at 99-97 when Jarrett Adderton connected on a layup with 3:53 in overtime. The Hurricanes took their largest lead - three points (102-99) - on a C.J. Hood layup with 1:57 left.
  • The Mountain Lions got within a point twice. YHC pulled to 106-105 after Willis hit a layup with 25 seconds to go. Hood extended the lead back to three points (108-106) after hitting two free throws with 18 seconds remaining. YHC had two chances to tie the game and send it into a second overtime, but both shots fell short.
  • For the third time in the past four games, the Mountain Lions shot over 50 percent from the field as they connected on 53.1 percent (34-of-64) of their shots.
  • YHC outscored the Hurricanes 46-24 in the paint.
  • GSW scored 26 points off 20 YHC turnovers.
  • Willis led the Mountain Lions with 30 points on 13-of-22 shooting.
  • Jacorie Archie scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including hitting five three-pointers. Archie also registered a double double as he pulled down 10 rebounds.
  • Brian Free also dropped 20 points for the Mountain Lions as he was a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe.
  • Karl Chavis finished with 15 points as he was 5-of-7 shooting before he fouled out.
  • Chinecherem Anukaenyi grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Hood led Georgia Southwestern with 30 points, while Adderton tallied 27 points and 11 rebounds.
