MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Dashaun Jackson scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Georgia College edged Young Harris College 72-61 in the Peach Belt Conference women's basketball opener Wednesday (Dec. 15) afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats improved to 4-6 overall and to 1-1 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-2 and 0-1. YHC travels to St. Augustine, Florida, Monday (Dec. 20) afternoon for a 1 p.m.. PBC contest against Flagler.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris jumped out to a 14-point lead (19-5) after Niaya White hit a free throw with 4:24 remaining in the first quarter as the Mountain Lions sank their first four three-pointers. Jackson scored eight points during the run, while Carly Winters added six more.
- YHC took its largest lead - 15 points (33-18) - after Lindsey Caudell connected on a three-pointer with 6:02 left in the second quarter.
- Georgia College got as close as two points (38-36) as Savannah Casey's three-pointer with 44 seconds before halftime ended a 20-3 run by the Bobcats.
- GC took the lead for good at 49-48 on a Jada Warren with 2:08 to play in the third quarter.Â
- Georgia College expanded its lead to 11 points (61-50) after a Harper Vick jumper with 8:37 remaining in the game.
- The Mountain Lions would get as close as seven points (68-61) the remainder of the game.
- Jackson scored her points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, including hitting three three-pointers.
- Winters was the only other Mountain Lion to finish in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting (4-of-9 three-pointers).
- Mackenzie Johnson added nine points, while White added eight rebounds and seven points.
