Buzzer beater gives Shorter 75-72 win over Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Ricky Knight Jr.'s three-pointer at the buzzer gave Shorter University a 75-72 non-conference men's basketball victory over Young Harris College Tuesday (Nov. 23) evening at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Hawks improved to 3-2, while the Mountain Lions remained winless in four tries. Young Harris faces the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon Friday (Nov. 26) at 3:30 p.m. in the first round of the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament in Melbourne, Florida.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Young Harris had erased a seven-point deficit (72-65) with just over three minutes left to tie the game at 72 before Knight's heroics.
  • Christian Schach connected on a three-pointer and a jumper from Karl Chavis and a layup from Caleb Towns knotted the game at 72 with 90 seconds left. The baskets by Chavis and Towns were set up by Shorter turnovers.
  • The Mountain Lions had a chance to take the lead but Eden Davis missed a jumper with 19 seconds to play and Ja'Cori Wilson grabbed the rebound for the Hawks,
  • After a Shorter timeout, Mark Wilcox Jr. found Knight open at the top of the key for the game winner.
  • Chavis led the Mountain Lions with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Davis dropped 12 points.
  • Carl Cleveland added 11 points, while Seth McCoy added nine. McCoy and Towns each finished with six rebounds.
  • The Mountain Lions only hit 8-of-23 opportunities from the free throw line.
