YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Brooke Morrison's goal in the 61st minute was the difference as the Young Harris College women's soccer team shut out the University of South Carolina-Aiken 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday (Oct. 23) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 5-7-0 overall and remained in the hunt for a PBC Tournament berth as they go to 2-6-0 in the league. The Pacers fell to 3-8-1 and 2-5-1. YHC closes out its regular season next Saturday (Oct. 30) with a 5 p.m. PBC match against Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris outshot the Pacers 14-6, including an 8-3 edge on goal.
- Morrison's game-winning goal came at the 60:43 mark. Senior Aimee Durn sent a ball through to Morrison on the left side of the box and Morrison powered the ball past the USC Aiken goalkeeper into the lower left corner of the goa for her first strike of 2021.
- Morrison, Elicia Mulvaney and Jaydn Campbell led the Mountain Lions with two shots on goal each.
- YHC senior goalkeeper Pien Van Kampen recorded three saves as she recorded her second shutout of the season.
- YHC recognized its five seniors - Van Kampen, Durn, Sam Van Ness, Britt Verstegen and  Jasmin Keller - prior to the match.
