ORANGEBURG, S.C. | Claflin University outlasted Young Harris College 25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 31-33, and 18-16 in a non-conference volleyball match Wednesday (Oct. 13) evening at Tullis Arena.
The Panthers improved to 9-7, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-14. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Oct. 15) with a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris is 3-2 all-time in five-set matches.
- The Mountain Lions set program records in kills (75), kill attempts (231), assists (72) and digs (110).
- The 119 points by YHC set a new record, surpassing the 109 scored against Kentucky State University earlier this season.
- The match saw 40 tie scores and 16 lead changes.
- The 33 points scored by the Mountain Lions in the fourth set that evened the match at 2 was also the most by YHC in a set. The previous record by 26 scored against Emory & Henry College (first set) and Kentucky State (third set).
- Lily Hidalgo set a program record with 28 kills and 74 kill attempts, while Ginger Truncale did the same with 39 assists and Joha Bernis in digs (38).
- Shelby Mullins (14) and Sophie Bearden (13) also recorded career bests in kills.
- Annie Messler tied her career high with 18 assists.
- Truncale added 17 digs and Messler posted 11 more.
- Bearden, Mullins, Hidalgo and Lorin Tidick each recorded two block assists.Â
