No. 5 Young Harris, North Georgia battle to a double OT draw

DAHLONEGA, Ga. | No. 5 Young Harris College and the University of North Georgia battled to a 2-all draw in double overtime Wednesday (Oct. 13) evening in its Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match at the UNG Soccer Complex.

The Mountain Lions improved to 11-0-1 overall and to 7-0-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks fell to 5-6-1 and 2-5-1. YHC returns to action Saturday (Oct. 16) at 3 p.m. with a PBC match against Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead at the 13:53 mark on Federico Gutierrez's goal. Val Feeney took the corner from the left side and found Adam Kirkwood at the back post. Kirkwood headed the ball to Gutierrez at the left post and he slotted the ball in the back of the net.
  • Young Harris doubled its lead at the 50:22 mark on Kirkwood's first goal. Edoardo Righetti played a shot corner to Feeney, who found Kirkwood in the middle of the box. Kirkwood put it in the left side of the net.
  • Donovann Odier and Elwyn Asiedu each scored for the Nighthawks to tie the match at 2 with 22 minutes left in regulation.
  • Young Harris outshot UNG 23-8, including a 6-0 edge in the two overtime periods. 
  • The Mountain Lions held a 12-6 margin on shots on goal.
  • YHC, which scored both goals off corner kicks, held an 11-4 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Henrik Timgren (4) and Eduardo D'Avino (0) combined for four saves in the YHC goal, while Ben Kempffer had 10 for the Nighthawks.
  • This is the first tie in the all-time series between the Mountain Lions and the Nighthawks. YHC leads the all-time series 14-3-1. 
  • This was the fourth overtime match in the series with YHC holding a 3-0-1 advantage.
