YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Makaila Cange scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as No. 5 Lander University defeated Young Harris College 65-45 in the Peach Belt Confrerence women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 30) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Bearcats improved to 9-0 overall and to 7-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-3 and 2-3.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• Lander jumped out to a 24-point lead (36-12) midway through the second quarter.
• The Mountain Lions used a 10-2 run to close the half to cut the deficit to 15 points (40-25) at the half. Eight of the 10 points during the YHC run were scored by Carly Winters.
• After Lander scored the opening basket of the third quarter, the Mountain Lions used a 14-1 run to get to pull within four points (43-39) after Winters sank two free throws with 3:10 remaining.
• The Bearcats thwarted the rally by going on a 9-2 run to end the quarter and push their lead to 11 points (52-41). The closest the Mountain Lions would get the remainder of the way was 10 points (54-44) after an old-fashioned three-point play with 8:14 remaining. If was the final field goal of the game for YHC.
• Lander scored 29 points off of Young Harris' 26 turnovers.
• Miriam Recarte also registered a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for LU.
• Zamiya Passmore finished with 14 points, five assists and five steals for the Bearcats.
• Winters led YHC with 13 points and six rebounds, while Niaya White had 12 points and six rebounds.
• Mackenzie Johnson led the Mountain Lions with eight rebounds.
