BELMONT, N.C. | Marin Felsoci scored six goals to lead Belmont Abbey College past Young Harris College 20-13 in a non-lacrosse match Wednesday (March 11) afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders improved to 7-2, while the Mountain Lions slipped to 3-5. Young Harris will host No. 18 Saint Leo University in a 1 p.m. match Sunday (March 15) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris opened up a quick 2-0 lead with 26:28 left as
Mary Deatrick and
Taylor Greenberg scored 10 seconds apart. However, Belmont Abbey scored the next five goals to open up a 5-2 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the first half.
The Crusaders, who led 8-5 at halftime, extended their lead to 12-8 before YHC got goals from
Anna Luckie and
Channing Milford to get within two at 12-10 with 22:13 remaining. Belmont Abbey thwarted the YHC comeback by scoring eight of the next 10 goals to take a 20-12 lead.
Aubrie Valvo led the Mountain Lions with five goals, while Luckie added four more. Milford tallied two goals, while Deatrick and Greenberg added one apiece. Deatrick,
Belle Hardwick and
Leigh Anne Turner had one assist each.
The Mountain Lions registered 17 draw controls, led by Valvo's five. Deatrick and Milford added four each. YHC corralled 22 ground balls, led by
Eryn Brown's five and
Maddy Meyers' three. Meyers turned away 17 shots in the Mountain Lion goal.
