COLUMBUS, Ga. | No. 5 Young Harris College collected 13 hits as the Mountain Lions defeated Union (Tenn.) University 10-2 Saturday (Feb. 8) evening at Cougar Field on the campus of Columbus State University.
The Mountain Lions (3-0) complete play at the CSU Classic Sunday (Feb. 9) with two games. YHC faces Bellarmine University at noon before they wrap up action with a 4 p.m. contest against Shorter University.
Young Harris jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Haylie Shope stroked a two-run single to right field before they added unearned run.
Morgan Curley gave the Mountain Lions a 4-0 lead with an RBI infield single in the third.
YHC busted the game open with a three-run fifth.
Carly Rigsbee drove in two with a double to right-center before
Michalyn Bingham added an RBI double to left-center. The Mountain Lions added
Maddie Urquiola solo homer to right-center and a Shope RBI double in the sixth inning to take a 9-1 lead. Young Harris added a run in the seventh on a Bulldog fielding error.
Bingham led the Mountain Lions with three hits, while
Emily Harris, Rigsbee and Shope added two apiece. Shope drove in three runs, while Rigsbee added two.
Sam Davis (2-0) earned the complete-game effort, allowing just four hits and striking out four.
