YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The senior trio of
Brian Harper,
Ryle Owens and
Paul Miller combined for nearly two-third of the offense Saturday (Feb. 29) afternoon as the Young Harris College men's basketball team recorded a 95-93 Peach Belt Conference double overtime win over Columbus State University at the YHC Basketball Arena on Senior Day.
The Mountain Lions improved to 9-19 overall, while the Cougars fell to 16-12 and 11-9.
Owens led Young Harris with 28 points, while Harper added 23 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds and Miller added 11 points and five rebounds.
Owens, who sent the game into overtime at 72 after hitting three free throws with a second left in regulation, led the Mountain Lions with 11 points alone in the two extra periods.Â
Young Harris had open an 80-75 lead in the first overtime after Miller hit a layup with 1:49 left, but Anthony Moore sent the game into the second extra period tied at 80 when he hit a layup with six second to go.
In a game that saw 16 lead changes and 13 ties, Harper gave the Mountain Lions the lead for good at 85-83 when Harper hit two free throws with 3:15 to go. YHC extended its lead to 91-86 when Owens sank a three-pointer with 53 seconds left. A Moore layup got CSU within three points (91-88) 11 seconds later, but another long-distance shot from Owens gave the Mountain Lions a 94-88 lead with 28 seconds.
YHC scored 27 points off 16 Columbus State turnovers. Â
Kristian Collins and
Nate Louis added eight points each for the Mountain Lions, while
Brian Free led YHC with nine rebounds.
Landrius Horton led the Cougars with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Moore added 24 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant Givens posted 20 points, while Hunter Preston added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
