FLORENCE, S.C. | Francis Marion University only collected three hits, but Brett Kemp's two-run double in the seventh gave the Patriots a 6-4 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over 33rd-ranked Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 29) afternoon at Sparrow Stadium.
The Patriots improved to 7-8 overall and to 3-4 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-5 and 2-3. The finale of the three-game series is set for Sunday (March 1) at 1 p.m.
Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
Jackson Jones led off the inning with a single to left-center and later scored on a FMU throwing error.
John Miller added an RBI double to left field.
Francis Marion tied the game at 2 with single runs in the second and third innings before YHC retook took the lead in the top of the fourth with two more runs. After FMU walked the bases loaded,
Kyle Ayers gave the Mountain Lions a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Tucker Greer added a RBI on a grounder.
The Patriots tied the game at 4 with two runs in the sixth before Kemp's seventh inning runs.
Chase Webb (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Mountain Lions.
Jones and
Logan Worley led the Mountain Lions with two hits.
