SALISBURY, N.C. | Cody Bielec and
Thomas Semple each scored five goals to lead the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team past Catawba College 17-13 Wednesday (Feb. 26) afternoon at Shuford Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-3 and will face Emmanuel (Ga.) College Saturday (Feb. 29) in a 2 p.m. match in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Indians fell to 0-3.
Bielec and Semple each found the back of the net twice in the first quarter as Young Harris jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Semple added two goals in the second quarter as the Mountain Lions extended their advantage to 13-7 at halftime.
The closest that the Indians would get the rest of the way was four goals at 16-12 with 4:18 left in the game.
Catawba held a slight advantage in shots (47-41), ground balls (41-37) and in face-offs (19-14).
Beau Henson and
Sam Gasta each scored twice for Young Harris, while
Ryley Zopfi,
Alex Venturino and
Jimmy Johnston each scored once.
Daniel Zimny distributed four assists, while
Wyatt Peek added three. Bielec, Henson,
Parker Lamarque,
Jimmy Martelli,
Chandler Seabolt and Zopfi had one apiece.
Max Fenno led YHC with five ground balls, while Gasta, Venturino and
Zane Zacharias each scooped up four.
Jacob Haas and Fenno each claimed seven face-off wins.
Tyler Oglesby registered three caused turnovers for the Mountain Lions.
Bryce Parrish registered a career-high 19 saves in goal for Young Harris.
