AUGUSTA, Ga. | Kennedi Manning and Cameryn Wilson combined to score 25 points to lead Augusta University to a 50-41 Peach Belt Conference victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon.
The Jaguars improved to 10-16 overall and to 7-11 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 15-11 and 9-9. YHC, which is currently tied for fifth place in the league, secured the program's first-ever bid to the upcoming Peach Belt Tournament as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke lost today. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (Feb. 26) when they travel to Dahlonega, Georgia, for a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest against their Blood Mountain rival University of North Georgia.
Augusta jumped out to a 16-3 lead after a layup from Stella Logbognon with 4:09 left in the first quarter. Young Harris pulled to within a point at 38-37 after
Carly Winters hit a three-pointer with 8:20 to play in the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars scored seven unanswered points to take an eight-point (45-37) lead after Logbognon hit a layup with 4:51 left.Â
YHC would get no closer than four points the rest of the way,
Manning led the Jaguars with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Wilson had 11 points.
Winters, who went 5-of-7 from the floor, led the Mountain Lions with 16 points and six rebounds.
