DUE WEST, S.C. | The fifth-ranked Young Harris College softball team wrap up play at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon with two more wins.
The Mountain Lions defeated Tusculum University 10-2 in the opener before shutting out Erskine College 5-0 in the second game.
Young Harris improved to 9-0 and will return to action Tuesday (Feb. 18) with its home opener at the YHC Softball Field against No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University at 1 p.m.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first three innings against Tusculum.
Jill Torres had an RBI single in the first inning before
Morgan Curley clubbed a three-run homer an inning later.
Katelynn Hodges and
Maddie Urquiola had run-scoring singles in the third.
After the Pioneers scored twice in the sixth, the Mountain Lions added three runs in the top of the seventh.
Emily Harris had a RBI single, while Curley drove in a run with a double to left.
Haylie Shope drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.
Shope (1-0) pitched a complete game for Young Harris with four strikeouts.Â
Curley led the Mountain Lions with three hits and 4 RBI, while Hodges added three hits. Harris also recorded two hits.
Against the Fleet in the nightcap, Young Harris scored single runs in five of the seven innings.Â
The Mountain Lions took advantage of an Erskine error to score their first run in the second.
Carly Rigsbee had an RBI single in the third before Curley drove in another run in the fifth with a single to right. Urquiola stroked an RBI double to left-center before Torres drove in a run in the seventh on an infield single.
Sara King (3-0) earned the shutout as she scattered four hits and struck out two in the complete game.
Harris, Rigsbee and
Michalyn Bingham had two hits apiece.
