TAMPA, Fla. | Bryan Wright scored five goals to lead No. 5 University of Tampa to a 24-7 men's lacrosse victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
The Spartans improved to 2-0, while the Mountain Lions slipped to 0-2. Young Harris returns to action with its home opener at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Monday (Feb. 17) when they host Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Unversity at 2 p.m.
The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead on a
Cody Bielec goal off a
Daniel Zimny assist 62 seconds into the match. YHC pulled to within a goal at 3-2 after
Sam Gasta scored with 9:26 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Spartans took control of the match as they scored seven unanswered goals to open up a 10-2 lead.
Bielec led the Mountain Lions with three goals, while
Ryley Zopfi scored twice. Gasta and
Eric Lemire each tallied a goal. Zimny paced Young Harris with three assists, while
Nathan Salaris and Zopfi added one each.
Alex Venturino and
Patrick Phelan had three ground balls each, while
Jacob Haas,
Bryce Parrish and
Zane Zacharias each scooped up two. Parrish led the three YHC goalies with 12 saves, while
Huck McCollum had two and
Liam Wright had one.Â
