Cave leads Georgia College past Mountain Lions in OT, 72-65

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Justin Cave scored 11 of Georgia College's 16 points in overtime as the Bobcats defeated Young Harris College 72-65 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Feb. 12) evenng at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Bobcats improved to 10-13 overall and to 7-8 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 7-16 and 5-10. Young Harris hits the road Saturday (Feb. 15) for a 3:30 p.m. PBC contest in Aiken, South Carolina, against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

In a game that saw 10 lead changes and the score tied 15 times, neither team enjoyed more than a seven-point advantage. Young Harris sent the game into overtime tied at 56 after Ryle Owens sank a three-pointer from 35 feet out at the buzzer.

At the start of the overtime, the teams combined to make their first seven shots in the extra period. Cave gave the Bobcats the lead for good at 66-63 on a three-pointer with 2:46 to play. Brian Harper got the Mountain Lions back to one point (66-65) after hitting two free throws 16 seconds later, but Cave scored the final six points - three free throws and three-pointer - to take a 72-65 lead with 48 seconds left.  The Mountain Lions missed their final eight shots from the field.

Cave finished with 23 points for the Bobcats, while Chris Parks and Christian Koneman each scored 13 points. Jordan Thomas tallied 11 points, while Wesley Simpson grabbed 13 rebounds.

Harper scored a career-high 30 points with six rebounds and six assists to lead Young Harris. Owens finished with eight poins and six rebounds, while Jacorie Archie had eight rebounds and seven points.
