Olsen leads No. 2 Mountain Lions past Crusaders 8-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Sondre Olsen scored four times to lead No. 2-ranked Young Harris College past North Greenville University 8-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 28) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 5-1-0, while the Crusaders remained winless in seven tries. Young Harris returns to competition Wednesday (Oct. 2) when they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina, for a 5 p.m. match against Limestone College.

The game was delayed by 45 minutes at the start by thunderstorms in the area, but the Mountain Lions wasted little time creating their own electricity as Yesin van der Pluijm scored off a direct kick just 4:49 in the match. Olsen scored the next two goals for the Mountain Lions over a five-minute stretch to give YHC a 3-0 lead midway through the first half.

After North Greenville got a goal from Gareth Greene 72 seconds into the start of the second half, Young Harris quickly responded with back-to-back goals in a 24 second-span from  Dan Creese and Olsen to take a 5-1 lead at the 47:38 mark. van der Pluijm added a penalty kick for the Mountain Lions, while Seba Andreassen and Olsen added strikes of their own.

Creese added two assists, while Jordan Mills, Anthony Gimenes, Rachaun Palmer and Andreassen also added an assist in the victory.

The four goals by Olsen ties a program mark in a game. Olsen joins Ilija Ilic (vs. Lincoln Memorial, 9/1/11), Marco Micaletto (vs. University of South Carolina-Aiken, 10/1/16) and YHC Athletics Hall of Famer Niall McCabe (vs. University of North Carolina at Pembroke, 10/26/13) who scored four goals in a game. The eight goals scored by the Mountain Lions is third most in the program's history in a match.

Young Harris dominated North Greenville in shots 29-3 and held a 5-2 margin on corner kicks.

Alex Iglesias and Henrik Timgren each played 45 minutes in goal for Young Harris with Timgren recording a save. Noah Kendrick (9) and Dawson Martin (1) combined for 10 saves for the Crusaders.
