YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Lenoir-Rhyne University scored an early goal and then held on for a 1-0 non-conference men's soccer victory ove rNo. 2 Young Harris College Wednesday (Sept. 25) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Bears improved to 4-2-1, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. when they host North Greenville University.
Victor Vascon gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at the 7:58 mark on a chip shot from 25 yards on the left side that went into the right corner of the net. It was Lenoir-Rhyne's only shot of the opening half as Young Harris held an 8-1 advantage.
The Mountain Lions, who outshot the Bears 21-6 in the match, kept pressing in the second half as they held a 13-5 advantage on shots. With about 11 minutes remaining in the match, Young Harris's best chance came when Federico Gutierrez's shot was saved by Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Alexander Langer and careened off the post. Langer collected nine saves for the Bears.
