Dani Fischer's penalty kick 79 seconds into the second half propelled the No. 3-ranked Young Harris College past Lee University 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 21) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-0-0, while the Flames fell to 3-1-1. Young Harris hosts Lenoir-Rhyne University in a 7 p.m. match Wednesday (Sept. 25).
With the match knotted at 1,
Seba Andreassen was pulled down in the box on a Young Harris corner kick at the 46:19 mark. Fischer then deposited the penalty kick into the lower left corner of the goal; to give YHC a 2-1 lead. It was Fischer's first goal of 2019.
Young Harris had taken a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Off a Fischer corner kick from the right side, Fischer found
Val Trouiller in the box and Trouiller's header deflected off the right post to
Ali Koller, who knocked the ball in for his thrid brace of the year. It was also the first goal surrendered by the Flames this season in five matches.
Lee tied the match at 1 with just under four minutes remaining as Tanner Carter followed his own missed shot for his first goal of 2019.
Young Harris held an 11-9 advantage on shots (5-4 on goal), while Lee had a 4-3 margin on corner kicks. Each netminder -
Alex Iglesias for the Mountain Lions and Daniel Hrenko for the Flames - turned away three shots.
The game was a physical one as there were 37 fouls called and seven cautions shown.
