YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Ashley Lewis scored two first half goals for Valdosta State University as they defeated Young Harris College 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Sunday (Sept. 15) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Blazers improved to 1-2-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-4-0. Young Harris hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) College at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m.
Lewis scored her first goal of the season for the Blazers in the 18th minute off an assist by Lauren Hicks to give Valdosta State a 1-0 lead. Lewis added her second goal of the game nine minutes later at the 26:15 mark as she sent the ball into the top left of the net from eight yards out after Mallory Johnson fed her the ball from midfield.
The best chance at scoring for Young Harris came in the 89th minute after
Hannah Behner hit the crossbar.
Valdosta State edged the Mountain Lions 12-8 in shots and 4-2 on corner kicks.
Caroline Embler picked up one save in goal for the Blazers, while
Pien Van Kampen had six saves between the pipes for the Mountain Lions.
