Young Harris uses strong first half to claw past Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Payton Putzer scored her first two goals of the season for Young Harris College as they defeated previously unbeaten Emmanuel (Ga.) College 4-2 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 18) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-4-0, while the Lions suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to 3-1-0. Young Harris opens up their Peach Belt Conference schedule as they hit the road to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 1 p.m. matchup against Flagler College on Saturday (Sept. 28).

Putzer scored her first goal of the game in the eighth minute after Juliana Alarcon passed her the ball from the top of the box, Putzer put the ball in the right corner of the net to put the Mountain Lions up 1-0.

Emmanuel tied the game with a goal by Molly Lunsford in the 20th minute.

Alarcon gave Young Harris the lead for good (2-1) in the 41st minute with her team-leading third goal of the season. Lailah Muscat posted her first goal of the season with a header after a corner kick from Hannah Behner just two minutes later at the 42:14 mark.

Putzer added some insurance (4-1) for the Mountain Lions with her second goal of the game in the 61st minute. Putzer gathered the rebound after Eline Sand took the initial and sent it into the back of the net.

The Lions edged the Mountain Lions 14-12 on shots, while Young Harris held the advantage on corner kicks 3-2.
