DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Morgan Curley hit a game-ending two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as Young Harris College defeated Francis Marion University 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference softball tournament Friday (May 3) afternoon at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium.
The Mountain Lions, who extended their winning streak to 12 games, improved to 37-16, while the Patriots fell to 31-19. Young Harris plays Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (May 4) in the semifinal round at 11 a.m.
Jessica Harney scored the first run of the game for Francis Marion in the top of the first inning with a RBI single down the right field line.
Katelynn Hodges scored the tying run (1-1) in the bottom of the fifth inning after
Emily Harris reached on a throwing error.
Grace Botti sent home to the go-ahead run (2-1) with a sacrifice fly to center field.
After an hour and 20 minute lightning delay in the top of the seventh inning, the Patriots put up two runs to take a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
Hodges reached on a fielding error to start the bottom of the seventh for the Mountain Lions. Curley ended the game with a two-run homer, her second of the season, to left center field.
Louisa Disi (13-5) picked up the win for Young Harris as she allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings of relief.
Curley went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
Michalyn Bingham picked up one hit. Botti tallied one RBI, while Hodges scored two runs.
Katelyn Ellard (18-10) earned the loss for the Patriots as she gave up four runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts in six innings pitched.
