Young Harris pick up 4-3 win over Georgia Southwestern on Senior Day

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Senior Oriana Labaqui made it a memorable Senior Day for the Young Harris College women's tennis team as her three-set victory at No. 1 singles was the difference gave the Mountain Lions a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (April 6) afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Mountain Lions, who honored Labaqui prior to the match, improved to 1-9 overall and to 1-5 in the Peach Belt, while the Hurricanes fell to 7-10 and 0-6. Young Harris entertain No. 8 Columbus State University in a noon PBC match Sunday (April 7).

Despite not having a No. 3 doubles team, the Mountain Lions clinched the doubles point by winning the other two doubles matches. Young Harris earned the point as Carol Quevedo and Milica Dabic won at No. 2 doubles 7-6 (6).

Georgia Southwestern took a 2-1 lead as the Mountain Lions defaulted wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Quevado tied the match at 2 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4, but the Hurricanes retook the lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.

YHC tied the match at 3 when Ana Rodriguez earned a 7-5, 7-6 (1) victory at No. 2 singles. Georgia Southwestern's Celia del Castillo took a 6-1 win over Labaqui in the first set, before Labaqui claimed the final two sets 6-1 and 6-4 to seal the Mountain Lion victory.
