COLUMBUS, Ga. | Drew Wilson threw a complete game for Young Harris College en route to a 2-1 victory of Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (April 20) at Burger King Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 29-16 overall and 15-10 in the PBC, while the Cougars fell to 27-15 and 12-11. Young Harris hosts the University of West Alabama Tuesday (April 23) in a noon doubleheader at Zell B. Miller Field. The 29 wins this season is second most in program history (NCAA era) and 15 conference wins ties the conference record with last season.
Garrett Kirkwood drove in the lone Columbus State run in the bottom of the second inning for CSU with an infield single to third base.
Cole Jackson gave YHC a 2-1 lead with a two-run homer to left field, his sixth of the season, in the top of the seventh inning.
Wilson (4-3) retired 11 of the last 13 batters faced to secure the victory for the Mountain Lions as he gave up one run on nine hits with four strikeouts in nine innings pitched.
Jackson collected a hit, two RBI, and a run scored, while
Dahlton Cash had a hit and a run scored.
T.J. Byrd also tallied a hit.
Sheridan Coy (7-1) earned the loss for the Cougars as he gave up one run on two hits with a walk and one strikeout in 2.2 innings of relief.
