MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College snapped No. 20 Georgia College's 14-game winning streak with a sweep in a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Friday (April 12) at the Peeler Complex.
The Mountain Lions spoiled senior day for the Bobcats by taking game one 5-2 behind a three-run seventh inning before taking the night cap 1-0. Young Harris improved to 28-16 overall and 9-5 in the PBC, while Georgia College fell to 31-12 and 9-3.
Carley Rigsbee broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning for the Mountain Lions with a two RBI single through the left side. Sarah Couch tied the game at two in the fifth inning for the Bobcats with a two-run single to center field.
Michalyn Bingham drove in the go-ahead run for Young Harris with a single to the pitcher that scored Rigsbee.
Kristan Lizardi made it a 4-2 game after
Katelynn Hodges reached on a throwing error before
Morgan Curley capped off the inning with a single through the right side that scored Bingham.
Nikkie Kovalsky (19-9) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Risgbee finished 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run scored, one walk, and a hit-by-pitch. Curley had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Bingham collected two hits with a RBI and a run scored.
Emily Harris and Lizardi each had a hit and a run scored.
Kayla Price (8-2) earned the loss for Georgia College as she allowed three runs (one unearned) on three hits with one walk.
Karah Straub scored the only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning after
Grace Botti reached on a fielding error from second base.
Louisa Disi (8-5) threw a complete game shutout for Young Harris and retired 11 of the last 13 batters while only giving up four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Bingham collected two hits, while Curley,
Jill Torres, Lizardi, and Hodges each had one hit.
Rebecca Lawrence (7-6) earned the loss for the Bobcats as she allowed one unearned run on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
