MARS HILL, N.C. | Corley Reynolds drove in four runs as Young Harris College defeated Mars Hill University 11-8 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (April 10) at Henderson Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 25-13, while the Lions fell to 16-23. Young Harris hosts Augusta University in a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference matchup Friday (April 12) at Zell B. Miller Field.
Austin Purser opened the scoring for Mars Hill with a RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the first inning.
Tristin Smith tied the game at one for the Mountain Lions in the second inning with a RBI single to right field.
Reynolds gave Young Harris a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run single to right center field. The Lions scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
Reynolds tripled home a pair to start the eight-run sixth inning for Young Harris. Lushington also collected a two RBI triple in the sixth inning.
T.J. Byrd,
Tucker Greer, and
Cole Jackson all picked up one RBI in the inning. The sixth inning marked the fifth time this season that the Mountain Lions have scored eight runs in a single inning.
Jake Tomelevage (3-1) picked up the win for Young Harris as he allowed just two hits with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Matt Rogers earned his second save of the season as he struck out one in 0.2 innings pitched.
Reynolds finished with two hits, four RBI, and a run scored. Lushington collected one hit, two RBI, and a run scored. Jackson went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Greer went 4-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Byrd tallied one hit, one RBI, and one run scored, while Smith went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Tony Bianchini (1-1) earned the loss for Mars Hill as he gave up four runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
