GREENEVILLE, Tenn. | Young Harris College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Tusculum University Sunday (March 31) afternoon at Red Edmonds Softball Field.
Nikkie Kovalsky (17-8) threw a complete game en route to a 2-1 victory in the opener before the Mountain Lions captured game two 16-2 over five innings. Young Harris improved to 23-13, while the Pioneers fell to 17-13. The Mountain Lions host Shorter University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday (April 3) at E.D. Rivers Field.
Young Harris scored their only two runs of the game in the sixth inning that started with a single to right field from
Jill Torres that scored
Haylie Shope.
Karah Straub scored on a throwing error to make it a 2-0 game for the Mountain Lions.
Chloe Freischmidt put Tusculum on the board in the seventh inning with a triple down the right field line and came around to score on a throwing error.
Kovalsky threw a complete game for Young Harris allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Torres collected one hit and one RBI, while Shope had a hit and a run scored.

Michalyn Bingham each tallied a hit.
Ivee Richesin (6-3) earned the loss for the Pioneers as she gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Botti put YHC on the board first in game two with a ground out to shortstop that scored
Morgan Curley in the first inning. Curley started the five-run second inning with a single through the left side that scored Lizardi. Harris singled home a pair to extend the lead to 4-0. Shope sent a solo home run, her sixth of the season, to left field. Torres concluded the inning with a single down the left field line that scored
Grace Botti.
The Mountain Lions collected two more runs in the third inning off a RBI triple from Bingham and a single up the middle from Harris that scored
Biz Walters.
Botti cleared the bases as part of an eight-run fifth inning for Young Harris with a single through the right side.
Lauren Crowe concluded the scoring in the fifth with a two RBI single to center field.
Louisa Disi (5-5) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she allowed two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Botti collected two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. Harris, Torres, and Bingham each went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored, while Crowe had one hit and two RBI. Walters tallied two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored, while Curley had two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs. Shope had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored. Lizardi had two hits and scored three runs.
Allison Pate (5-5) earned the loss for Tusculum as she gave up six runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout in two innings pitched.
