YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader over Georgia Southwestern State University to win its fourth straight PBC series Saturday (March 30) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
Cole Jackson and
Dahlton Cash each drove in four runs in the 15-5 game one victory before the Mountain Lions took the nightcap 20-3. Young Harris improved to 22-11 overall and 10-6 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes fell to 12-23 and 6-12. The Mountain Lions travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia, Wednesday (April 3) for a 6 p.m. contest against Emmanuel (Ga.) College.
Zavier Lushington started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning for Young Harris with a single up the middle that scored
Tucker Greer. The Mountain Lions scored three more times in the second inning and eight up the fourth that was capped off by a grand slam from
Cole Jackson, his third home run of the season, and a solo home run from
T.J. Byrd, his second of the season.
Dylan Gibeau (4-2) picked up the win for Young Harris as he gave up two runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Cash went 3-for-6 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored, while Jackson had one hit, four RBI, and a run scored. Greer went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Ethan Underwood, Byrd, and Lushington each had a hit and a RBI.
Bailey Campbell had a RBI.
Stewart Tyler (1-2) earned the loss for GSW as he gave up three runs on three hits with one walk in 0.1 innings pitched.
The Hurricanes struck first in game two after Jonathan Martin came around to score on an error in the first inning.
Tyler Washington answered in the bottom of the first with a grand slam, his second home run of the season, to right field to give the Mountain Lions a 4-1 lead. Young Harris scored two runs in the second and picked up one in the third.
The Mountain Lions packed on eight runs in the fourth inning that started with a RBI double down the right field line from Lushington and was capped off by
Brett Hawkins with a single through the right side that scored Greer. Jackson hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to left field in the fourth inning to give Young Harris a 17-2 lead.
Tristin Smith hit his third home run of the season to left center to extend the lead to 18-2.
Drew Wilson (2-2) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as he gave up three unearned runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Washington finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Greer collected two hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Hawkins went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jackson had two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored, while Smith had two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs.
Corley Reynolds had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored. Lushington had two hits, one RBI, and scored two runs. Every starter for Young Harris recorded at least one hit.
Matthew Snider (0-2) earned the loss for GSW as he gave up six runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks and one strikeout in one inning pitched.
