YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | A strong third period by the University of South Carolina-Aiken was the difference as the Pacers defeated Young Harris College 66-53 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game on Senior Day Saturday (March 2) at the YHC Basketball Arena.
The Pacers improved to 16-12 and 12-10 in the league, while the Mountain Lions ended the 2018-19 season at 6-22 and 4-18.Â
Young Harris led the majority of the first half, opening up a 18-8 lead on a
Jessica Beckner free throw with 70 seconds left in the first quarter. The Mountain Lions would hold at 30-26 lead at the half before the Pacers used a 21-7 run at the start of the third quarter to open up a 47-37 lead after an Alex Canady three-pointer with 3:33 to go. Young Harris got as close as five points on a
Lindsey Caudell layup with 5:04 to play, but the Mountain Lions were held scoreless the remainder of the game.
Senior
Pamela Diokpara led the way for the Mountain Lions with her 13th double double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Sarah Woghiren added 13 points, while Caudell added 11. Fellow senior
Sarah Reid contributed three points, two rebounds and two steals. Diokpara and Reid were both honored after the game.
Kwajelin Farrar led the Pacers with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Kyrie Chandler added 10 points and seven rebounds. Melyk Taouil tossed in 16 points and eight rebounds.
