BRISTOL, Tenn. | Young Harris College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with King (Tenn.) University Sunday (March 10) afternoon at the King Softball Field.
The Mountain Lions fell to the Tornado 4-2 in the opener before taking game two 1-0. Young Harris improved to 12-6 while King fell to 9-6. The Mountain Lions return to action Monday (March 11) in Banner Elk, North Carolina, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Lees-McRae College.Â
Jill Torres had the only run of the game in game two with team-leading fourth home run to right center in the top of the second inning.Â
Louisa Disi (2-1) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she threw a complete game shutout as she allowed three hits with three walks and struck out 11.Â
Torres had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored.
Morgan Curley and
Kristan Lizardi each collected a hit.Â
Casey Gilbert (1-3) earned the loss for King as she gave up one run on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.Â
Jenna Burnett gave the Tornado a 3-0 lead in the third inning of game one with a three-run homer to left field. The Mountain Lions picked up two in the fifth inning with a RBI single by
Dara Moore and after
Carly Rigsbee reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Karah Straub.Â
Katelyn Davidson added to the King lead with a solo home run to to left center in the bottom of the sixth inning.Â
Nikkie Kovalsky (9-5) earned the loss for Young Harris as she gave up four runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.Â
Moore and Rigsbee each collected two hits and a RBI. Curley, Lizardi,
Haylie Shope,
Emily Harris, and
Grace Botti had one hit apiece.Â
Rachel Farmer (2-0) picked up the win for the Tornado as she gave up two unearned runs on nine hits with two walks in seven innings pitched.Â
