ROME, Ga. | Young Harris College and Shorter University split a Saturday (Feb. 9) afternoon baseball doubleheader at Robert H. Ledbetter FIeld.
The Mountain Lions took the opener 2-1 before the Hawks claimed game two with a 9-5 decision.
With the split, Young Harris improved to 3-4, while Shorter fell to 5-2. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field for the 2 p.m. home opener Tuesday (Feb. 12) against Tusculum University.
Young Harris scored both of its runs in game one in the top of the first.

Zavier Lushington and
Cole Jackson led off the game with back-back-to-back singles to load the bases. After a wild pitch scored the first run,
Dahlton Cash drove in the second run on a ground out to score.
Mountain Lion hurler
Cameron Williams (2-0) made that lead stand as he threw a complete game, surrendering only four hits and struck out four. Banks Woodley took the loss for the Hawks.
Cash and Worley each led YHC with two hits, while Cash also had a double.
In the nightcap, Young Harris scored twice in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2. Cash led off the inning with a homer, his first of the season.
Tyler Washington singled and later scored on a single by
Corley Reynolds.
Shorter broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Mountain Lions got an unearned run in the fifth and added two more runs in the seventh. Lushington led off the seventh by being hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Jackson double. Lushington scored on a passed ball while Jackson scored on a sacrifice fly by
Dixon Craft.
Kyle Turner (0-1) absorbed the loss for Young Harris, while Jaydon Berry (1-0) earned the win for Shorter.
Jackson and Cash each paced the Mountain Lions with two hits apiece. Jackson had two doubles in the game, while Worley added another.
