Clayton State outlasts Young Harris 121-115

MORROW, Ga. | Jaylen Taylor scored 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Clayton State University outlasted Young Harris College 121-115 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Feb. 6) evening.

The Lakers improved to 8-12 overall and to 5-9 in the league, while the Mountain Lions, who reached the century mark for the eighth time this season, fell to 10-11 and 8-7. Young Harris returns to the YHC Basketball Arena Saturday (Feb. 9) for a 3:30 p.m. PBC homecoming contest against Georgia Southwestern State University.

Taylor, which shot 17-of-19 from the floor, helped Clayton State shoot 56.6 percent (43-of-76) from the floor.

The game was a see-saw affair as there were seven ties and 14 lead changes between the teams.

Clayton State took control of the game last as they used a 13-5 run to open up a 107-97 lead after Justin Tuckson hit a three-pointer with 6:19 remaining.  The Lakers led by 12 (116-104) with 1:41 to play, but the Mountain Lions reeled off seven unanswered points 65 seconds later to close within five points (116-111) after Ray Reeves connected on a three-pointer. However, that was as close as Young Harris would get.

Aubrey Moore added 22 points for Clayton State, while D'von Moore (16) and Savvon Delgado (13) also finished in double figures.

Justin Jones scored 28 of his team-high 34 points in the second half for the Mountain Lions. Paul Miller tossed in 16 points, while Nicksen Blanc nearly had a double double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Ryle Owens and Reeves each finished with 11 points, while Brian Harper tallied 10 points.
